Steviosides, as a natural sweetener, are widely used in developed countries. Reportedly, 40% of Japanese foods use steviosides as a sweetener. In my country, steviosides have been approved as a food additive since 1984, and their safety has been recognized by the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Furthermore, rebaudioside A was approved for use as a food additive in the United States in 2008 and Europe in 2011. Between 2016 and 2020, stevia extract consistently topped the list of Chinese extract exports. In 2020, my country's total stevia extract exports approached US$300 million. In terms of export market distribution, the United States is the largest overseas market for stevia extract, with nearly US$100 million in exports. Meanwhile, the Malaysian market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by the fact that stevia extracts exported from my country undergo deep processing locally and are then widely distributed globally. Countries such as the European Union, Japan, South Korea, and Mexico also hold a significant market share. The global steviol glycoside market is also booming. In 2018, it was valued at US$637.1 million and is projected to surge to US$1.1694 billion by 2026, a compound annual growth rate of 8.0%. This market dynamic suggests that my country's stevia extract export potential will continue to be unleashed.
